Technology to Achieve 'Net Zero'

Carbon Clean CEO named Entrepreneur of the Year

Carbon Clean’s Chair and CEO, Aniruddha Sharma, has won Entrepreneur of the Year at BusinessGreen’s Leaders Awards 2022.

In a strong field of inspiring entrepreneurs working across the green economy, the judges said Sharma stood out for his work driving the development and delivery of carbon capture and reuse technology that could have a genuinely transformational impact on multiple sectors.

Aniruddha Sharma, Chair and CEO of Carbon Clean commented:

“It’s an honour to receive this recognition and I would like to thank all my colleagues, especially my co-founder Prateek who has done so much to ensure our innovative carbon capture technology is world-leading. We set up Carbon Clean together while still at University in India 13 years ago. Our belief that cost-effective carbon capture technology was not only possible, but would be at the heart of industrial decarbonisation, has only grown stronger since then.

“There have been significant challenges over this time, of course, but since the launch of our breakthrough modular technology, CycloneCC, last autumn we have seen a huge uptick in interest from industrial companies across the globe. The challenge for us now will be keeping pace with this demand.”

Carbon Clean is revolutionising the trillion-dollar industrial decarbonisation space for essential hard-to-abate industries such as cement, steel, refineries and energy from waste. The company is seeking to deliver industrial decarbonisation on a gigatonne scale and is on track to achieve this vision of capturing 1 billion tonnes of CO2 by the mid-2030s.

Its modular solutions will move the sector away from costly, large and complex technologies to compact and standardised solutions that can be delivered in a matter of weeks and that will reduce the overall cost of carbon capture by up to 50 per cent.

Since October 2020, Carbon Clean has secured over 10 partnerships and projects globally with key industry players. Sharma has overseen the company’s accelerated growth in North America with partners such as Chevron and continued to cement Carbon Clean’s presence in Europe, with strategic partners including CEMEX and Veolia. The company has also installed its semi-modular carbon capture technology in Japan – working with Taiheiyo Cement Corporation on the country’s first carbon capture demonstration facility, and has installed India’s first blast furnace carbon capture plant for Tata Steel.

The award comes just weeks after the company closed a record $150m Series C funding round for a point source carbon capture company.
